Montgomery’s Dry Martini (15/1)

Ingredients:
60 mls London Dry Gin (Boodles works well)
5 mls dry vermouth (Dolin or Noily Prat work well)
Shake & Strain (stir if prefer) Into Coupet
Serve with a twist lemon or orange-your choice

Grant Collins, owner of Gin Lane in Sydney, shares his favourite Martini variation, a serve he says he enjoys every year to mark World Gin Day, celebrated this year on 13 June.
“The Montgomery Martini is famously associated with Ernest Hemingway and is said to have been inspired by Bernard Montgomery, one of Britain’s most celebrated military commanders of the Second World War”, said Collins.
“Alongside his military achievements, Montgomery was known for his fondness for Martinis. The cocktail’s distinctive 15:1 ratio of gin to vermouth is said to reflect his preferred odds in battle: 15 of his troops for every one of the enemy’s.”
“Traditionally stirred, we think it’s even better shaken and fine-strained. However, you prefer it, it’s a fantastic drink to raise a glass with this World Gin Day 2026!”
