From adversity comes triumph and Glenfiddich is set to release the Snow Phoenix; ‘a unique, limited edition single malt Scotch whisky bottled in 2010’. Following a heavy deluge of snow, sections of roof collapsed at the distillery’s Dufftown barrel stores and Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s Malt Master, who was on hand to help shovel away the tons of snow got thinking. “Standing amongst the wreckage and exposed casks, I was thinking about how the casks, some of which were very old, contained some beautiful whisky and it occurred to me that they would create a fantastic non-aged single malt.”
The limited edition malt has been created by marrying together natural strength and non-chill filtered casks of different ages and finishes, including American oak and Oloroso sherry. A rich and complex malt; the Snow Phoenix is dedicated to the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and will be available from March 2011. Australia has been allocated 3000 bottles.
