New from Think Spirits, and a bit of a first for the company, is this fresh fig liqueur: Esprit de Figues. It’s got a great story behind it, too, coming from its creator (and Think Spirits head honcho) Patrick Borg. Borg has been a drinks industry leader for many years now, so it’s a welcome development to see him trying his hand at crafting a quality liqueur.
See, when Borg’s mother left her native Malta for Australia in the 1960’s, she brought with her a clipping of figs — her favourite fruit. The fig tree that she planted in Australia evokes childhood memories for Borg and set him on a path to creating this new liqueur.
It’s made in France from a recipe honed over seven years and using fresh Bordeaux figs and French technique, is designed to mix well with other ingredients and pours a pale mauve colour in the glass.
