Sydney is set to welcome new venue NOLA Smokehouse & Bar to the shores of Barangaroo later this month.

Overlooking the harbour, the new bar comes from Sydney operators Pete Fischer (owner of New Orleans-inspired small bar The Swinging Cat) and Richard Duff (whose cooking career has seen stints in London restaurants like Bibendum and L’Oranger, with time spent at Attica in Melbourne and The Lincoln, The Kirketon Bar & Dining and O Bar & Dining in Sydney), and sees Sydney hospitality veteran Mikee Collins consulting on the project.

“NOLA will focus on smoked meats, American whiskey, wine, live music and southern hospitality,” Collins says.

“The fitout is inspired by all the colour and character of New Orleans architecture and has been beautifully designed by award winning firm, Luchetti Krelle. Our aspect looks out over the harbour and the whole room is filled with natural light from the western setting sun – making it perfect for corporates lunching to afternoon drinks and dinner with friends,” he says.

The 270 capacity venue has a 90 pax dining room, as well as space for 120 at the bar. Expect to see classic New Orleans cocktails like the Sazerac make an appearance on the list, as well as other USA-inspired drinks featuring their large selection of American whiskey — which will number around the 500 mark — and drawing upon the 1000-bottle back bar.

Throw in some live music with your eats and drinks — and a 180-strong wine list — and Sydney can expect to be well-watered down by the harbour.

NOLA Smokehouse & BBQ opens later this month — follow their progress on Facebook here — and will be open for dinner Monday to Saturday, and for lunch Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
