In terms of ambition, it’s fair to say that Singapore bar Atlas is probably the world’s most ambitious gin bar. When ATLAS opened in Singapore earlier this year, they brought a five star European grand lobby and bar vision to life in one of the city state’s most exclusive addresses — and they brought more gin than you’ve ever seen before in one place.
And come Wednesday 20 September, they’ll be taking over The Barber Shop — Australia’s reigning Gin Bar of the Year — for a Bar Week closing party to remember.
Australian expat Jason Williams and ATLAS head bartender Roman Foltan are making the trip from Singapore to The Barber Shop and they’re planning on bringing the full Atlas experience.
“ATLAS is a modern rendition of grand European lobby’s, cafes and bars of the art deco period,” says Williams when asked what we can expect from the takeover. “It’s a celebration of art deco design, architecture and art, but also of the culinary and drinking custom. All parts of the experience are designed to bring to life the narrative of Europe 1915 to 1939.
“We are bringing what we can and the team at The Barber Shop are working on some cool venue elements on their end,” he says. “We will have our soundtrack, signature cocktails and lots of ATLAS Martinis.”
“I got the full tour by Jason Williams when I was over in Singapore earlier this year,” says the Barber Shop’s Mike Enright. “The effort that has gone into the creation of this gin bar is mind blowing.
“We really want to bring ATLAS to life in Sydney. We’ll be graced by Jason and Roman behind the bar telling their story and presenting awesome drinks for us to experience,” he says.
Tickets to the event are just $30, which includes two cocktails. We’re very excited about Bar Week and Bombay Sapphire bringing the Atlas team to town, and about what the Atlas and The Barber Shop teams have in store for the night — it’s going to be a closing party you won’t want to miss.
On the afternoon of Wednesday 20 September, you’ll also have the chance to experience a masterclass put on by both ATLAS and The Barber Shop — they’ll be talking about ATLAS and their gin program in some detail, and tasting an array of gins. Take a look at the details for both events below.
