Located in the heart of Newtown on King Street, Buddy’s is a dual-level self-serve boozery with 33 taps to pour from. With DJs every Friday and Saturday night, the team saw it as an opportunity to build a space for the local community to form a connection with the bar and create long-lasting memories.

Business partners Jimmy and Duncan signed the lease for the venue back in May and spent 8 months building the space with the help of family and friends to make it what it is today. With the majority of the refurbishings and fit-outs being sourced from the local second-hand market, the pair are keen to do everything as sustainably as possible, and be able to offer guests an experience without the large amounts of wastage that is common among most hospitality venues.

The 45 self-serve drink taps include a curated list of craft beers, natural wines, house-made cocktails and also some non-alcoholic options. Guests simply need to grab a Buddy’s venue card and pre-load their desired amount to allow them to indulge in the self-serve beverage wall.

In the Australian hospitality scene, this seems like an unknown concept, but the system assists staff with responsible service of alcohol through volume and card-reactivation restrictions, plus, Buddy’s staff are always at the wall assisting with tastings and recommendations.

The team at Buddy’s is also working closely with local winemakers and distributors to source quality natural and organic wines in sustainable kegs to further help reduce their environmental impact. As kegged wine has a lower carbon footprint than bottled wine and saves over 40 wine bottles that would usually be involved in the recycling process.

On the food front, Buddy’s has partnered with local crew from ‘Rub-A-Dub’ to offer a selection of popular menu items including chicken and corn ribs, nachos, flatbread Italian pizzas and a metre-long bruschetta.

Be sure to head on down to Buddy’s to pour yourself a drink, have a bite to eat and maybe even shake those hips and dance the night away with friends.
