The Bar Leone team

The World’s 50 Best Bars list has just been announced overnight in Hong Kong, with Melbourne’s Caretaker’s Cottage and Sydney’s Maybe Sammy standing proud as Australia’s representatives in this year’s global lineup.

Landing at No.19, Caretaker’s Cottage which recently took home Cocktail Bar of the Year at the 2025 Australian Bar Awards, continues to cement its reputation as one of the world’s most respected cocktail destinations. The small bar is tucked away behind Wesley Place in Melbourne’s CBD, and continues to impress with its precise drinks, thoughtful hospitality, and understated charm – the kind of venue that proves great things come in small packages.

Meanwhile, Sydney’s Maybe Sammy once again makes its mark, coming in at No.42. Known for its playful take on classic cocktails and flawless service, the team continues to uphold the golden-era sophistication that has earned them global recognition year after year.

Sydney’s Tigra + Disco Pantera was also named the winner of the Best Bar Design Award by a panel of industry design experts.

At the top of the list, Hong Kong’s Bar Leone takes out the No.1 spot, marking a huge win for the host city. The results once again highlight the diversity and creativity shaping the global cocktail landscape – from the speakeasies of Mexico City and the innovation of Barcelona to the timeless elegance of London and the craftsmanship of Tokyo.

With Caretaker’s Cottage and Maybe Sammy both holding strong, Australia remains firmly on the map as a destination for world-class cocktails, proving that down under the standard of service and creativity continues to rival the best bars in the world.
