City Hotel Relauch – This Friday

The Kent Street Living Room at the City Hotel

The Deconstructed team who previously oversaw the revamp of the Shelbourne Hotel in Sydney’s CBD have embarked upon a new venture; the City Hotel or just ‘The City’ as they envisage the venue becoming known. The launch event for step one of the project is set for tomorrow night.

Clive Morley, the man behind the Deconstructed magic, notes that the venue established in 1977 has been overlooked in recent years. “But the Deconstructed ship has now landed and brought with it a cargo of inspiration and ambition to bring the 600 capacity space with open -air terrace to life once again” explains Morley.

The new look and feel of The City Hotel

Step one of the project was to transform the upstairs space (a disused Mexican-themed restaurant) into the aptly named Kent Street Living Room. The space is inspired by the Duke of Kent (Queen Victoria’s father) after whom the street is named, in the sense that crystal chandeliers, flock wallpaper and chesterfield couches and Tom Dixon lights have been combined to create 19th century/ Victorian feel. That being said there’s nothing Victorian about the entertainment offering that boasts new DJs and a sound and lighting set-up. Deconstructed are in talks with the cream of Australia’s promoters to add to it a web of international DJ and event connections thanks the marketing company’s previous experiences working with the likes of Carl Cox, Chemical Brothers, Mylo, Plump DJs and countless others.
