Sydney operators take hat-trick

The Button boys!

This news item featured in the November issue of Australian Bartender magazine.

What could you Stitch to a Pocket bar? How about a Button – yep, that’s the name of latest venue by Christophe Lehouk and Karl Schlothauer.

Down the bottom end of Foveaux St and a stones throw from Merivale’s El Loco (at the Excelsior Hotel) is their latest venture, and with relief and excitement in their eyes the boys tell me; “That there won’t be a kitchen!” Don’t fret however as you’ll still be able to enjoy some tasty treats however, damn tasty – just not cooked. “We’re going to be doing ceviche,” says Schlothauer.

The boys are going for a bit of a ‘pirate’ theme (if only lightly) – replete with 19th century long rifles, lamps and other soon to be bought odds and ends. “There will be gin for the sailors and rum for the pirates,” Schlothauer jests.

The bar will stretch for nine meters, and will stock a host of spirits and the interior will be taken up mostly by a long share table with high stools as well as a couple of more cosy booths. Jimmy Sakajani (ex ivy, Pool Club) is on board as an investor and Lehouk and Schlothauer will operate more as silent partners.
