Double Bay Doubles-up

Double Bay is riding a bit of a wave at the moment, with the old Bollywood restaurant site now under the direction of a new team of talent. Andy Becher (co-owner Roxbury Hotel, Sydney), Daimon Downey (of Sneaky Sound Systems), and Charlie Hinckfuss are all involved and are set to launch the new – at print, yet to be named – venue in mid-January. The team is excited about their new bar and entertainment offering and what it will bring to the local area which has been off the radar for a while as a destination night spot.

“Retail has been dominating here for to long,” says Becher, “and the local council has been really supportive of getting good operators down to Double Bay to reinvigorate the area.” The team see their combination of wine, champagne and cocktails as a key attraction and Downey is going to be throwing all his music entertainment experience behind the venture, promising a wide range of entertainment, “from jazz to touring artists and DJs collaborating – it’s going to be a sophisticated venue with a European beach club feel.”

Set off and Bay street and in an under the street level site this launch is going set to shake up the Double Bay scene and the crew see themselves in the ‘middle-east’ with the ability to capture the beach crowds and the eastern suburb tipplers who don’t want to head into the Cross, or the CBD. The recently opened Mrs Sippy is directly opposite giving the zone some added weight and Becher confirmed that there is another project close by they’re looking at too. Hinckfuss has the last word, “The ultimate emphasis here is fun,” ha states. With this killer combination, that seems a certainty.
