Another new haunt that we’ve been following since we announced it a few months ago, PaperPlanes, has opened.
This is the latest Sydney offering from the Barge brothers assault: Matt, Chris and Tim. For the new Bondi venture they’ve been joined by Phil Capaldi, who brings a wealth of experience and a new perspective to the Barge8 Hospitality Group. PaperPlanes is Japanese contemporary, Tokyo Pop style and even if you can’t peg that exact theme in your head you’ll know something special is happening when you arrive. There’s skateboards on the roof giving a textural and visual experience, as well as what seems like hundreds of paper cranes hanging from the ceiling.
“We grew up in Bondi,” said Matt Barge, “it’s fantastic to be opening PaperPlanes at a time where that focus [on Bondi] is coming back.” PaperPlanes aims to encapsulate the excitement and energy of the Japanese culture; there will be fresh modern dishes, cocktail bartenders and degustation dinners on a regular basis.
