At Bar Week, old-school ‘tenders, vintage cocktails

Mike Enright and The Barber Shop will be kicking things off for Bar Week again this year, with a great event in store for the first night of festivities on Saturday 19 September.

Enright’s event, Vintage Cocktails with Veteran Bartenders will see a handful of old-school bartenders joining Enright — no spring chicken himself — behind the bar at The Barber Shop.

“I’ve invited a handful of veteran bartenders with over 25 years of experience to participate in a reunion behind the Bar for one night only during Bar Week, including a special guest from overseas,” Enright said.

And though he’s remaining tight-lipped on the bartending line-up for the night at the moment, he told us that “the menu will consist of forgotten Classics over the past couple of Centuries.”

You might not be able to teach old dogs new tricks, but then again when those old dogs are veteran bartenders with more than 25 years experience behind the stick, you know you’re going to get some well-honed banter and good drinks.

It’s the first event of many during Sydney Bar Week this year — for more information on what’s on and to book tickets to the Indie Tasting, the Business of Bars Conference and the Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards, visit barweek.com.au now.
