Last night saw The Baxter Inn’s Priscilla Leong take out the first season of Speed Rack Australia, after a full day of tense competition at Sydney’s Marble Bar.
16 finalists who had progressed from the regional finals held last month gathered in Sydney yesterday, with the preliminary final being held during the day. Only the top eight would go through to the next round: Millie Tang, Anna Nguyen, Christine Lam, Emma Crisp, Priscilla Leong, Jenna Hemsworth, Jemima McDonald, and Shay Chamberlain made the cut and squared off, two at a time, before a packed house that afternoon.
After four battles, we had the top four — Millie Tang, Priscilla Leong, Jenna Hemsworth and Shay Chamberlain — who would then compete to see who would go into the last and deciding round. The deciding round was between Leong and Tang, and it was a tight contest with a just a second separating the pair before penalties.
In the end, though, it was Leong who emerged the winner.
Money from tickets and t-shirt sales on the night will go towards breast cancer research, and it was great to see the Sydney hospitality community get behind the ladies competing that night — a stellar effort from the evening’s emcee, Alex Ross, saw the crowd getting involved and making a helluva racket.
