The Dry Dock, a much-loved community pub in the heart of Balmain reopened in late 2023 following a transformative restoration of the historic venue, re-establishing its place as a cornerstone of the Balmain community. As the oldest licensed pub in Balmain dating back to 1857, The Dry Dock has been a much-loved community local for 166 years.
Located on historic Mort Bay Park, a short few minutes walk from the Balmain Ferry Wharf, and a quick 10-minute ferry ride from Sydney’s Circular Quay. The Dry Dock Public House & Dining Room officially welcomes guests back this week.
Owned by James Ingram (ex-Merivale, Solotel), and passionate Balmain local Mike Everett, the 330-capacity, multi-faceted venue is home to three distinct spaces, offering up an expansive drinks list and modern European-inspired bistro fare available throughout.

A charming and classic (dog-friendly) Public Bar welcomes 90 guests, offering an expansive list of beer, wine, spirits and classic cocktails with 16 products on tap. Positioned to the side of the public bar, is an intimate Sports Lounge designed for comfort where guests can relax, and watch the races or their favourite game on the large screens.
The Lounge Bar, comfortably accommodating 120, is an inviting, relaxed and airy space, perfect for sunlit days to cosy evenings by the double fronted wood burning fireplace. Guests can indulge in bistro classics and time-honoured cocktails from leather booths and comfortable club chairs, accompanied by great music creating a sense of escape.
Designed for 100 guests, the Dining Room is a contemporary European bistro featuring a sit-up Oyster Bar and open kitchen, with Josper Charcoal Grill, wood-fired oven and rotisserie. Flooded with natural light, high ceilings and views onto an elegant courtyard garden – it also offers a semi-private dining room seating 14.
