FOUR AWARD WINNING BARTENDERS ARE TAKING THEIR DISCO POP-UP ‘THE 86 CLUB’ AROUND AUSTRALIA

For many, the 70s and 80s was a cultural and musical peak. Disco, rollerblades, piña coladas, what more could you want! Inspired by this thriving wave of self expression and inclusion, The 86 Club are a collective of bartenders from Brisbane and Sydney’s leading watering holes, hellbent on bringing this energy back, today announcing their exciting pop-up will be making it’s way around Australia.

Kicking off their run at Brisbane’s leading Savile Row just weeks ago, The 86 Club blurs the line between a traditional cocktail pop-up event, and a club night. Reimagining six of the 80s cocktails we know and love (the humble Shandy, Miami Vice and Stinger for example), the events are backed by a lively soundtrack of house and disco, curated by the collective and each local venue.

The 86 Club is named after the common hospitality term “86”, which is used to represent something that is no longer available. With that in mind, the group encourages guests to ‘86’ all their problems at the door, and revel in the vibrancy of the 80s.

The brainchild of Andie Bulley (The Waratah), Blade Deegan (Maker), Liam Murphy and Martin McConnell (both Frog’s Hollow Saloon), together the group share an impressive rap sheet of accolades, and aim to use this combined expertise to conceptualise the era with quality ingredients and modern techniques, working with leading brands such as Strangelove, Glenfiddich, Hendrick’s, Monkey Shoulder, Balvenie, De Kuyper and Reyka Vodka to bring this to life.

Follow the call to the disco ball! The group are taking this show on the road to Adelaide’s home of chrome, Nightshade, before heading to Sydney institution Earl’s Juke Joint, and closing the run at Melbourne’s new lively music bar Misfits.
