Sydney’s Kittyhawk has relaunched as Kittyhawk New York, a live music venue with an Italian American menu, replacing its former Parisian-style concept.
Owner Jared Merlino, who is known for Big Poppa’s on Oxford Street, is steering the change, bringing a louder venue. DJs will play five nights a week, with a focus on genres tied to New York’s music history like hip hop, soul, disco, and funk.
“After eight years, it was time to bring more energy into the venue. We want music and entertainment at the core,” said Merlino.
The kitchen, led by Marco Costa, will offer a rotating menu of pasta, proteins, and bar snacks until close. Cocktails will be designed by Venue Manager Daniel Hilton, with a mix of modified classics and top-shelf options available via a roaming spirits cart, and offering a daily happy hour, which runs from 4–6pm.
Sommelier Michelle O’Donnell has curated a wine list of 80–120 bottles, with a focus on Italian and local producers.
A new DJ booth and lounge area take over the front of the venue, with a centrepiece hand-crafted mosaic mural of Busta Rhymes – linking Kittyhawk to its sister venue, Big Poppa’s.
The venue will also host collaborations with top NYC bars, including guest shifts and cocktail events.
Kittyhawk New York opens Tuesday to Saturday until 2am at 16 Phillip Lane, Sydney.
