New release whisky, by way of the Caribbean

Balvenie-4-Year-Old-Caribbean-Cask

Here’s a delicious dram due to drop next week: The Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask.

Launched into the Australian market last night at The Cuban Place in Sydney, this new addition to the Balvenie range is a whisky that has been aged in American oak casks for 14 years, before being finished in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. It’s got a unique aromatic profile (there’s hints of marzipan and nuts in amongst aromas of toffee) and a soft, fruity, generous palate.

The rum cask finish is a technique suited to this particular whisky, said The Balvenie’s malt master, David Stewart. ““We’ve found that many years maturation in traditional oak whisky casks followed by a few months of rum cask maturation complements The Balvenie single malt very well.”

And it’s a unique whisky that brand owner, William Grant & Sons, hopes will meet growing demand for single malt whiskies.
