What is the International Spirits Academy? (ISA)
The ISA is a new arm within a successful group of hospitality-focused entities, including The Australian Gin Distillers Association Inc., The Australian Gin Awards, and Gin Events Pty Limited.
The ISA is a dynamic, new education company dedicated to elevating spirits education and certification for the hospitality industry. We offer an unparalleled range of courses with four levels of certification, finishing with the Master of Eau de Vie diploma, delivering expert knowledge in an innovative and accessible format.
This program will be directed not only to the hospitality professional in cocktail bars, fine dining restaurants and hotels but also to keen individuals and spirits producers who are looking for a deeper understanding of spirits. As much as you would call on the recommendations of a sommelier when choosing wine, you would similarly call on a spirits professional to recommend fine cognac, whisky or tequila.
So what do you really know about spirits?
The Course Syllabus is provided in order to give candidates studying for International Spirits Academy courses and examinations an overview of the depth of knowledge expected at each level of examination.
Across all four levels the eight modules are consistent in their coverage of the spirits industry. As candidates progress through the four stages of certification they should anticipate the expectation of their knowledge to grow at increasingly significant magnitudes. Progressive levels will focus in finer detail on course material as well as identifying more specific styles, production techniques and legal boundaries. Whilst at different stages certain modules may take on greater attention or examination it is to be considered that all modules hold significance and increasing depth at each level.
The Syllabus gives an indication of the type and depth of the subject that is likely to be found at each level from fundamental knowledge and skills at the introductory and certified level, to in-depth and specialist knowledge and skills at the Advanced and Master Sommelier Diploma levels.
