On Wednesday, 24th May, following a ‘SIP-cessful’ event in Sydney, The Blend is bringing ‘Serve Smith’ to Melbourne; bringing any ‘sophisticated’ swans across Victoria, a heated match showcasing cocktail techniques and trending flavours with new (& the best!) local talent.
Perhaps one of the best examples of this tableside service is the famed Martini Trolley at The Connaught. A white-gloved bartender preparing a Martini to your specs is the level everyone hopes to achieve, the theatre adding to the beverage and the admiring looks from other diners around the room.
This involved shipping and using all the same glassware, all the same spirits, and all the same garnishes as those drinks being launched in the two official sites – a huge logistical challenge, and to quote RE’s owner Matt Whiley “Absolutely nuts on a whole other level”.
Re the world’s first permanent no-waste bar is heading to Memphis Slim’s in Adelaide for two days of sustainability and delicious Bombay Sapphire, Grey Goose, Patrón and Bacardi cocktails. Bacardi-Martini Australia is proud to partner with both Re and Memphis Slim’s to highlight sustainability within the industry.
“Whether it be using boiling water to kill an ice well (aka frozen water) or discarding the flesh of an orange just to give an Old Fashioned a beautiful zest, we could all do better.”
“We can’t stress to people enough that were not picking stuff out of a bin – we’re going to the market and this is stuff people don’t want to buy.”
Joining Whiley behind the bar are some of the city’s best bartenders, including Evan Stroeve (Bulletin Place), Jake Downe (This Must Be The Place; Scout London) and Ho Song (Cantina OK; PS40). Apart from the exceptional level of service they will bring, the crew have creative license to work on the “Re- search” drinks…
“Food waste costs our economy $20 billion a year – more than five-million tonnes of food ends up in landfill; one in five bags of groceries winds up in the bin. At RE-, we’ll showcase this through our bar program, but also build a platform geared towards change on a global level. The time is now.” – Matt Whiley
