Sustainability is a big ticket issue for bars, bartenders and bar operators these days. Why? Well, not only is it often the right thing to do for the planet, but it’s also the right thing to do if you’re goal is delicious drinks that your punters can”t find elsewhere.
That’s why this year we’re proud to include for the first time the Best Sustainable Bar Program award in the 2017 Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards.
The awards, now in their 17th year, are a highlight on the Australian bartender calendar. And we’ve seen sustainable issues come to the forefront of the industry over the past year or so, whether it’s a focus on reducing what bars throw away and a move towards zero-waste bartending, a greater understanding of ethical and sustainable spirits producers, or the sustainability of a bartender’s career given the physical, demanding work that it involves.
So we want you to tell us what you’re doing to green the planet, to reduce waste, but most of all, how the sustainable initiatives you’ve put in place have resulted in delicious drinks and better experience for your guests.
Because that’s really what it’s all about.
How to enter the Best Sustainable Bar Program Award?
The Best Sustainable Bar Program award is not based on the popular vote but will be assessed by a panel to determine the finalists. To be eligible for this award, the venue must nominate themselves and supply a PDF of their drinks list and a one page supporting statement highlighting the steps they’ve taken to implement a sustainable bar program.
