In search of the next distinguished cocktail, Southern Comfort is bringing back its cocktail competition for a second year with a new name – Southern Showdown.
The competition has taken on global relevance and now includes the UK and Ireland. In addition to this, Southern Comfort has now set up an international final at a venue in New Orleans on 16th July this year.
Paying homage to the vibrant city of New Orleans, the birthplace of Southern Comfort, Southern Showdown is calling on bartenders to capture the spirit of their hometown in a cocktail, just like Southern Comfort captures the spirit of New Orleans; for their chance to be crowned Australia’s national champion and go in the running for Southern Comfort’s International Champion!

The best 25 cocktails will be shortlisted – five in each region – and showcased for the Showdown State Tours. The winner from each region will then go head-to-head at the biggest party this side of the Mississippi, the Southern Showdown National Final, to determine who will be the ultimate champion.
The eventual winner will embark on a trip to New Orleans for the world’s premier cocktail festival, ‘Tales of the Cocktail’ and represent Australia in an International Final Showdown.
The ultimate winner will embark on an all-expenses paid trip to New Orleans to compete in the International final against Ireland and the UK. The trip will also include tickets to ‘Tales of the Cocktail’ and an honorary bartending spot at one of the city’s top bars.

Southern Comfort was a brand that was created by a bartender, for bartenders, using the original Cuffs and Buttons recipe. We hope that this competition will highlight Southern Comforts versatility and encourage mixologists to show their hometowns spirit through their cocktail recipes like M W Heron did in 1874,” he said.
