The Originals Cocktail Competition
Australian Distilling Co. launches new competition to shine a light on the important role that local bartenders play in creating unique experiences.
The Australian Distilling Co. has launched a new cocktail competition, The Originals. The competition aims to capture the heart and soul of what makes Australian life so vibrant and diverse, a value that is foundational to the creation of their range.
It’s been a tough period for hospitality venues, and in shining a light on the important role bartenders play in creating experiences, the competition aims to showcase a style of hospitality that people can’t recreate at home.
“The Originals Competition is a platform intended to celebrate the craft of the cocktail itself – with the aim of reminding people how fortunate we are to live in cities with vibrant, talented bar scenes that need us to get out there and support them.”
Marketing Manager, Duncan McRae notes that a cocktail has the ability to capture a moment, place or feeling. And, The Originals Competition is a platform intended to celebrate the craft of the cocktail itself – with the aim of reminding people how fortunate we are to live in cities with vibrant, talented bar scenes that need us to get out there and support them.
The Originals Cocktail Competition is looking for entries that are creative and original, and tell a story that connects the drinker to something inspiring. Competitors will be assessed on a wide range of criteria with proportional scores being allocated across technique, drink concept, execution, presentation with taste being the most important.
Adelaide is often overlooked within the cocktail competition circuit, but they form a valuable development program for talent. The first round of the competition will be judged in the entrant’s home bar – which is intended to lower the barrier to entry to include up-and-coming bartenders, as the idea of making a drink for a panel of judges in the bar you work 40 hours a week in isn’t as daunting as travelling somewhere unfamiliar.
Adelaide Distilling Co. has announced an expert panel of judges from different facets of the industry. The final will be judged by a panel including Tom Lark, original founder of KI Spirits, Antimo Iannella – Adelaide Confidential and Lifestyle Editor, as well as one other interstate VIP ‘head judge’, who will be announced before the final.
