We are looking for a talented barkeep who has got as much flair with the pen as they do with a jigger to join our team a few days a week at our Sydney office.
You must have previous publishing experience and a good work ethic.

Nestled behind an actual basement record store on 73 York Street, Sydney, Mojo Record Bar is set to be a new home for fans of 60s, garage, surf and stoner rock. The venue, which opened early this month everything going to plan, is brought to you by Daniel McManus, John Ruttan and Natalie Ng (ex-Hugos Bar Pizza and Café Pacifico) who will also be managing the 120 capacity venue. “We’ll be playing a bit of cheesey stuff too with a splash of Neil Young and more modern groups like the White Stripes,” adds Ng.
Another West Australian venue that’s a welcome addition to the Aussie bar landscape is El Publico, and it is so new the bar floor probably isn’t even dirty yet. By all accounts however, they are serving up some sensational treats and welcoming in the locals.
You would be forgiven for thinking that bottled cocktails are a relatively new fad – a result of liquor multi-nationals trying to maximise profit. But cast aside the rash of premixed beverages filling liquor store shelves for minute a take a look back into the murky booze laced history of mixed drinks and you’ll see that the bottled convenience of pre-mixed beverages has long been popular.
Available throughout Australia since early May, Absolut Wild Tea combines the rich notes of oolong tea and the delicacy of Scandinavian white elderflowers.
Jack Daniel’s honey is a little bit of honey with a whole lot of Jack Daniel’s spirit.
After a recent trip to Brissie, Bartender heard that some local lads were blending up their own whisky at the Laneway, so we chatted to Perryn Collier about what he was up to. “Blending whisky is by no stretch of the imagination a new idea,” Collier stated. “We decided to blend our own in house whiskey as a way of offering our patrons an interesting whisky experience that is unique to our venue, something that is unattainable elsewhere.”
“We’re at the bottom end of Melbourne’s CBD,” Delany explained to Bartender when asked about the name. “Peter Iwaniuk owns the site and has operated nightclubs, restaurants and bars in Melbourne for over 30 years,” he continues. “He is a tireless advocate of the hospitality industry.” Delany is the venue’s creative director and has once again brought his flamboyant touch to the space, renovating and reinvigorating the interior to bring Melbourne a seriously serious nightclub.
This month’s Drinks With needs little introduction. Yet on the same token – it’s Dan Aykroyd so how can we not talk it up! This is the man who helped defeat a giant size Stay Puft Marshmellow Man in Ghostbusters and sang some sweet tunes behind chicken wire in The Blues Brothers. He’s also behind the recently launched Crystal Head vodka, so we thought it was a prime opportunity to talk to one of Hollywood’s icons.
Does your venue pour Stella Artois on Tap? This is your chance to prove yourself against the best beer pourers from around the world.
The Stella Artois World Draught Masters is the ultimate showcase of the Stella Artois 9 Step Pouring ritual. Steeped in history, elegance and sophistication, the competition invites bartenders from around the world to demonstrate their passion for beer and serving prowess.
It’s a bloody long way to get to Ireland and I don’t think they had a longer flight option with Virgin! So do yourself a favour and don’t almost kill yourself trying to fit in a full tour of Ireland and get back to Sydney in just a week. Crazy! With such limited time available I decided to focus my trip on pubs and all things whiskey related, unfortunately giving their iconic castles and fabled racetracks a miss.
