The idea sprouted to take on a short-term lease and turn the café into a bar for the summer holidays. After a series of “que sera” moments over the summer, the pair decided to officially open their first bar and restaurant in December 2020, just a stone’s throw from Sawtell Beach.

Harrison Kenney of Cantina OK!, Sydney, has been crowned winner at the 2022 PATRÓN Perfectionists Cocktail Competition global final that took place at Hacienda PATRÓN, Mexico, on 3rd June. Harrison’s outstanding cocktail, Teal, was presented alongside the creations of 14 other competitors hailing from the four corners of the world.
Topics for this year will cover the long-term effects on the hospitality industry post pandemic, staffing and recruitment, growing a business and some TED talk style sessions. Leading operators from Jason Williams, Natalie Ng, Hayden Lambert and Sven Almenning (among many others) will be on hand.
Australian people and places received a total of ten nominations, so hats off to all of you for being recognised in this international forum. A special little mention to Cara Devine, regular contributor to Australian Bartender, who made the list for her youtube series Behind the Bar.
