Little Prince Wine opened quietly onto Melbourne’s hospitality scene on the first day of Lockdown 2.0, and has been moonlighting as a neighbourhood coffee haunt, bottle shop and gourmet grocer ever since. But now it will operate as it was always intended; a chic European inspired wine bar.

This one is a new Sydney restaurant, tequila and mezcal bar and taqueria that launched in the heart of the CBD in October. It’s from the team behind Paddington’s Tequila Mockingbird, and most recently, pop-up venue Tequila on York.
In September, Gurdys restaurant and bar in Newtown quietly reopened following a major menu overhaul and refurbishment. The Newtown favourite has expanded its sustainable ethos and team, introducing a completely new food offering centred around minimal-waste cooking and a completely plant-based menu.
The Kings Cross Distillery pot-still is affectionately known as “Miss Pottsy” and is located in the heart of the new vibrant venue, proudly on display. The location at Macleay Street, juxtaposed to the famous Kings Cross dandelion-flower inspired fountain, was at once a 1960s speakeasy and illegal gambling den.
Rum Diary Bar in Newcastle is keeping with the whole fun rum thing – with boozy rum cocktails, Caribbean food and a dedicated cigar deck. The shipwreck vibe is strong but it’s a bit classier than its Melbourne stablemate.
WA’s Gage Roads Brewing Co launched the Atomic Beer Project in Sydney in late September. Housed in a renovated mid-century warehouse in the heart of Redfern, the microbrewery and Thai-inspired restaurant is a brewpub at heart.
Situated in the old Redfern Continental, The Sunshine Inn is a neighbourhood restaurant and bar. The drinks are Australian focussed with a wine list showcasing the best of Australia’s budding natural wine scene.
In news just in, three Sydney bars have made the cut in the World’s 50 Best Bars. A huge congrats to Maybe Sammy (11), Cantina OK! (28) and Bulletin Place (39). London’s Connaught bar knocked Dante off the top spot.

Perth’s State Buildings went into overdrive during WA’s lockdown and when things opened up again in Perth they had a bunch of new venues to showcase. This included Pooles Temple, a classic late night underground bar where you can get a damn fine martini.
