Marquee — The Star

Sydney’s hottest nightclub under the spotlight

The Merrywell

Opening in April this year, the Merrywell, is billed as a ‘game-changing gastro-pub’.

House of Maximon

From the owners of Melbourne’s Eurotrash and Berlin Bar comes another iconic offering that is set to raise an eyebrow of two.

The Collection Bar

“Quite literally what had started as some minor adjustments quickly spiralled out of control into a massive renovation,” Paul Fitzsimmons – The Collection Bar, Melbourne

Kid Boston

Nestled down in Melbourne and with a host of other cool little bars and hang-outs close by, Kid Boston is proving to be a popular addition to the Windsor area…

Palmer & Co.

This latest launch from Merivale is a case-in-point example of Justin Hemmes’ attention to detail and creative savvy. Taking over a section of Tank’s underground space – what used to be the VIP area – Palmer & Co…

Chiswick

By its site in Sydney’s Woollahra precinct alone, Chiswick is certainly a destination spot for people in the know. From early reports too, everything on offer is proving its worth and the venue is securing itself a solid reputation…

Cabiria Luncheonette & Oyster Bar

What piqued our interest initially was the name ‘Luncheonette & Oyster Bar’ – we really had to check out a place that prefaced itself as if it was operating in the mid-19th century (there was a popular Oyster Bar operating on George Street, Sydney in 1880s for example).

Tio’s Cerveceria

This is one Tequila watering hole that is seriously shaking up the Surry Hills landscape. Tio’s has been trading for a few months now and while it’s taken the Bartender photographer a bit of time to get down there, boy whiz is that place impressive. From the relative humble shell that we featured back in October, Tio’s has within it a stand alone enclosed bar that houses enough Tequila to sink a small ship

The Little Guy

We’re hard pressed for space each month with so many new bars opening up, but this one needs a bit of a plug. On the main strip in Glebe The Little Guy is doing good things for the ‘friendly local bar’ category.

PaperPlanes

This is the latest Sydney offering from the Barge brothers assault: Matt, Chris and Tim. For the new Bondi venture they’ve been joined by Phil Capaldi, who brings a wealth of experience and a new perspective to the Barge8 Hospitality Group. PaperPlanes is Japanese contemporary, Tokyo Pop style and even if you can’t peg that exact theme in your head you’ll know something special is happening when you arrive. There’s skateboards on the roof giving a textural and visual experience, as well as what seems like hundreds of paper cranes hanging from the ceiling.

Public Bar & Restaurant

Public has launched in Brisbane and has some top operators behind it in Tom Sanceau and Bonnie Shearston (co owners of award winning Canvas Bar). “We have opened Public in Brisbane’s North Quarter which is a largely corporate area with not many residents,” said an excited Shearston when Bartender spoke to her recently.
