Paper Plane recipe: take flight with this Sam Ross classic

The Paper Plane recipe is a drink that we’ve seen on menus from Paris to Perth. It’s a drink that Ross developed for Chicago bar The Violet Hour in 2007, and the beauty of this drink is that it is — like some of the world’s best — an equal parts drink.

Here’s Sam Ross’ three favourite recipes from his Bartender’s Choice app

Ross is co-owner of Attaboy, which occupies the space that Milk & Honey once did on New York’s Lower East Side; he’s recently opened an outpost of the bar in Nashville; and he co-owns Diamond Reef, a tiki bar in Brooklyn. And as if he’s not busy enough, Ross has just recently revamped the app for the first time in 10 years.

Sam Ross & Michael McIllroy on Attaboy & latex gloves

After 13 years in the space on Eldridge Street, Milk & Honey’s owner Sasha Petraske was looking for new digs: a bigger space for a new chapter in Milk & Honey’s life. And one that sparked a new life for the old space: life as Attaboy. We asked Ross and McIllroy how it came to be via email.

Drinks With – Sam Ross

There’s no doubting that Sam Ross is ours, however for the better part of a decade he has been holding court at Milk & Honey, New York. In 2011 he took out the American Bartender of the Year award at Tales of the Cocktail and in December he popped his head up downunder to host a couple of seminars revealing a few tricks and insights to the NY bar scene.
