Led by the team that runs Sydney’s iconic Lansdowne Hotel, The Shaking Hand, known by locals as Shakes, is set to be Canberra’s next great live music establishment, taking over the Akuna Street basement site that housed Transit Bar until 2020.

A late-night rock and roll scene featuring a lineup of both local and international acts, DJ’s, fast drink service and pizza by the slice is the atmosphere that Shakes embodies. “We cater to the rebels, the misfits, and anyone who wants to raise hell until 2am every weekend, no judgement, just good times, and great tunes,” says venue manager Tim Keown.

Shake’s offers an assortment of premium drinks from frozen margaritas, batched cocktails, natural wines and locally brewed craft beers as well as a range of staple Shakey Pizza classics such as spinach and ricotta pizza and the OG margarita at only $5 a slice.

The venue has a heavy grungy 90s Punk and Rock n’ Roll influence and is fast becoming hotspot for musicians and music lovers alike to showcase their talent and bond over a few pints of craft beer and fresh pizza. The pub is located underground, the atmosphere is soaked in dim lighting, eclectic furniture and a whole lot of red.

Judgement should be left at the door and customers should only care about having a good time and listening to great music. Shakes will be open Wednesday to Sunday from 4pm til late.
