The team behind The Roosevelt in Potts Point have announced the upcoming opening of their latest venture, Tucano’s. Having previously opened pop-up CBD bar, About Time, in 2021, the team have come together again, this time with a more permanent home in Surry Hills.
Set to open in early August, Tucano’s brings an interpretation of Modern Tiki to life, combining tropical flavours with an unsuspecting aperitivo twist. Taking over the space that was once home to local favourite, Cafe Lounge, the venue has undergone a complete refurbishment, complementing its prime positioning off bustling Crown Street.
With six hospitality veterans at the helm, Tucano’s is a celebration of the group’s love for unique experiences, quality service and a collective passion for great food and drinks.

“We’re really looking forward to serving up a more modern take on classic Tiki and bring something fun and distinctive to the local area,” says General Manager, Steve Davis (ex Opera Bar). “We’ve always been fans of both tiki and lighter, spritzy amaro-based drinks, so it’s exciting to bring those worlds together. A tropical aperitivo – what’s not to love?”
The unexpected pairing will run throughout the food and cocktail menu, with fresh takes on both Tiki and Aperitif crowd favourites. Expect combinations of rums, amaros and vermouths with tropical fruits for a lighter, brighter take on classic Tiki cocktails, while the appointment of Chef Naomi Lowry (Biota, Pilu and ByFassnidge), will see a menu complete with tropical yet modern interpretations of notable Mediterranean fare.
Tucano’s is set to open in early August and will be open from 5pm to 1am, 6 days a week.
