Calling all Sydney bars! Got an idea for an amazing consumer event for Bar Week?

Hey Sydney Bars! Bar Week’s trade events are now all confirmed so it’s time to start looking for amazing consumer-focused drinks events to be included in our timetable.

Have you got a great idea? It could be a drinks dinner, a spirits symposium or a tiki safari night for the punters, whatever it is you’re thinking of we’d love to hear more. We want to get behind the bars that are going to put on the most inventive nights for consumers, but we only have a handful of spots on the calendar. Using a brand or brands from our sponsors line up gets you pushed to the top of the list (full line up announced in June)

The night that was… Pacifico Go Go & Bartender’s 150th Issue Bash

It was an appropriately large evening to send off a bar that has had an inappropriate influence (in the best of ways) on bartenders around the country, and a fine way for Australian Bartender to celebrate its 150th issue. There was tequila, nudity, lay-backs, tequila, strippers, and then some more tequila. We’ve curated a few of the photos that were safe for publication in the gallery below.

New sponsors & format announced for Bartender of the Year 2013!

It’s that time of year people — in just four months’ time the country’s biggest and most challenging bartending competition will get underway. Australian Bartender is proud to announce that this year’s competition will be sponsored by ABSOLUT ELYX and Havana Club, both from the Pernod Ricard stable of brands.

Stoli mixes its way around the country

Over the last couple of months Island2Island have taken Stoli to mix, muddle and mash its way across the country, wrapping up a successful tour yesterday in Sydney at the Village, Potts Point. The tour involved masterclasses that saw select groups of bartenders in all the major cities discover the rich history behind Stoli and where it sits in the vodka category, all the while catching up with other bartenders — and causing a ruckus or two along the way.

New French liqueur, Pavan, launches in Sydney

Bartenders and industry folk alike gathered yesterday at Brasserie Ananas in the Rocks, Sydney to celebrate the launch of new French liqueur, Pavan.
Club Suntory put on an event that evoked a sun-drenched south-of-France glamour and included a variety of cocktails, with matching canapes provided by the Ananas kitchen.

Australian Bartender’s 150th issue bash!

That’s right, Australian Bartender is sending out our 150th issue this June. It’s a huge milestone and to celebrate we’re teaming up with Cafe Pacifico to host the tequila party to end all parties.

We’ve loved Pacifico over the years and want to give them a fond farewell for their 15 years of service to the Aussie bar industry with this invite-only celebratory bash next Tuesday the 7th of May. It will be Pacifico’s last night and it promises to be huge!

Woodford Reserve’s Ryes

A select group of top bartenders and owners gathered at Gowings Bar & Grill on Tuesday night to taste through the beautiful whiskies from Woodford Reserve. Brand Ambassador Stuart Reeves led guests through an informal tasting and feast.

Manhattan Cocktail Classic on sale now

The Manhattan Cocktail Classic is on again this year (May 17—21 2013); those keen on going ought to set an alarm, as tickets for the event go on sale Friday March 15th at 12pm EDT in the US (which is 3am Saturday 16th AEST).
