This award pays tribute to someone who has made a marked difference to the bar industry through their passion and dedication, and who has had an outsized, positive effect on the industry. This year’s recipient is Martin Lange, a Brisbane bar operator who has been in the hospitality industry for more than two decades.

‘Amaro’ means bitter in Italian (‘amari’ is the plural), and covers an incredibly wide category of bitter herbal liqueurs made by steeping botanicals in spirits or wine, and adding sugar. Amari were originally made by monks and thought to be medicinal (where would we be without those tonic-touting monks?! Living in a much less flavourful world, that’s for sure).

This one is from Jacob Goss, the operator of The Rum Diary bars in both Melbourne and Newcastle. He’s been hosting these events for a while now, and we’re lucky that he is bringing it to Sydney for Sydney Bar Week thanks to Bacardi and De Kuyper and our good friends at The Lobo.
Ground floor restaurant, Loam, and the Lobby Bar are now open for business, while the rooftop restaurant and bar, Kiln, helmed by Chef-Partner Mitch Orr and designed by Fiona Lynch Office is opening soon.
The boutique marques will include Lallier champagne, Bisquit and Dubouché cognac, Montelobos mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, Appleton Estate rum, Espolon tequila and O’ndina gin.
The Spirited Talks at the Indie Spirits Tasting are always a lively affair — join some spirited experts and Australian Bartender Magazine Founder & Operator of Piccolo Bar, David Spanton, for three short and sharp talks. Seating is limited; first-in, best dressed.
