Reigning Australian Bartender of the Year, Alex Gondzioulis, takes on Group Bar Manager role at Liquid & Larder

AN EXCITING NEW CHAPTER FOR REIGNING AUSTRALIAN BARTENDER OF THE YEAR, ALEX GONDZIOULIS

Taking over multiple cocktail lists, bartender training and relaunching a venue is no easy task. For reigning Australian Bartender of the Year, Alex ‘Gondz’ Gondzioulis, the new challenge has arrived, stepping into the Group Bar Manager role at Liquid & Larder.

“Moving onto this new role has me excited as it’s the kind of multifaceted role that I can really sink my teeth into.” said Alex, who departed his post as managing Bulletin Place last month.

The team behind some of Sydney’s most esteemed venues, Liquid & Larder (The Gidley, Bistecca, Wild Rover & Grandma’s) have been aspirational in their desire to grow their impressive portfolio of Sydney boozers, beginning with the relaunch of Wild Rover (multiple time nominee for Bartender Magazine Whisky Bar of the Year) in the coming months.

As for talent, there aren’t too many bartenders more gifted than Gondz to usher in the new era of one of Surry Hills’ most loved watering holes. “I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the new list for The Wild Rover, and all the changes to the venue coming with that” he said without revealing too much.

“Gondz will bring even more creative ?air to all our venues and I can’t wait to see his work unfold starting with the new evolution of The Rover” said Kim McDiarmid who began his journey with the company opening the original Wild Rover in 2013. “We’re ambitious in our plans to bring more venues to life and Gondz’s creativity, positivity and enthusiasm will play a key part in Liquid & Larder’s future.”

The Wild Rover will remain in full swing until the overhaul, therefore expect to see Gondz become acquainted with the groups diverse bar offering in the meantime. “To be responsible for the beverage offerings at four very different and distinct venues, as well as being in charge of recruitment and staff development really appealed to me… It should be equal parts challenging and fun.”
