The team at Old Mate’s Place selected The Knickerbocker for the introductory cocktail this month as according to Dan Noble it’s been staging a bit of a comeback. A classic from Jerry Thomas, the Old Mate’s version features pomegranate.

The streamed ceremony will begin at Thursday 3pm UK time (or 2am Friday morning AEST), culminating in the announcement of The World’s Best Bar

During the STEP UP Challenge, bartenders from across Australia will compete to see who can climb the most flights of stairs for the 4 week period.

From a local standpoint, for Melbourne bars made the list. The Everleigh in Melbourne was a new entry and the highest Aussie bar in the 51 to 100 coming in at 73. Byrdi Melbourne came in at 80, Above Board at 84 and Black Pearl at 98. Great news for four of the city’s best bars who are just slowly creeping out of lockdown.
