After a number of rounds, which have seen bartenders from throughout the country compete in a series of challenges, Mike Tomasic from The Wild Rover in Sydney has emerged victorious in the Australian round of the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge.
Monday night saw the NSW round of the Angostura Global Cocktail Competition kick off at Miss Peaches, with Luke Redington of Hello Sailor taking out the honours.
After a huge number of entries, island2island have narrowed it down to the top six competitors in each state, and we’ve got them listed here. And just to remind you about what’s at stake for this comp, the team at Angostura and island2island have got a whopping $10,000 in cash money and a trip to sunny Trinidad for the winner of the national final.
Adelaide is making its presence on the Aussie cocktailing scene felt, with Glenelg’s Eden Dining Room and Bar taking out the Angostura Barrel Aged Cocktail comp, with an innovative an adventurous drink drawing on sherry-making techniques.

Australia’s leg of the global Angostura Cocktail Challenge is well under way thanks to a bumper turn out at the New South Wales state final on Monday night. Held at Sydney’s shrine to rum – La Bodeguita Del Medio – it was Rockpool Bar & Grill’s Neilsen Braid who proved he can stomach his bitters with the best of them by shrugging off the other competitors to take out the state title.
